Bold prints and relaxed tailoring: the two trends shaping wardrobes this season

A look at how customers are combining statement prints with softer, more relaxed tailoring.

Two trends are defining customer choices at Buntu this season, and they are increasingly being worn together. Statement prints, once reserved largely for ceremonies and special occasions, are moving into everyday wardrobes. At the same time, tailoring is becoming lighter and more relaxed, with an emphasis on comfort through a full working day.

Prints move into everyday wear

Customers are choosing printed shirts, skirts and bags for work and weekend use, typically pairing a single patterned piece with neutral basics. Graphic and wax-inspired prints are performing particularly well in shirts and accessories.

"We are seeing customers wear prints throughout the week, and not only for special occasions," says a Buntu spokesperson. "The most popular approach is one strong piece with a simple outfit around it, which makes prints easier to wear more often."

Tailoring becomes more relaxed

Tailored pieces remain important, but the silhouette has softened. Trousers with a slightly looser cut, unlined jackets and lighter fabrics are seeing the strongest demand, in a colour palette built around sand, charcoal and olive. The result is a polished look that suits Kigali's climate and the amount of walking many customers do during the day.

Combining the two

Some of the most popular combinations bring both trends together: a printed shirt under a neutral jacket, tailored trousers with a bright bag, or a plain dress paired with a patterned scarf.

Looking ahead

As the rainy season progresses, Buntu expects prints to feature more strongly in weather-resistant accessories and tailoring to move towards faster-drying fabrics. Buntu will continue to adjust the assortment in line with customer demand.
