How Buntu selects its assortment: from first sample to full shelf

Every product in the Buntu shop is chosen and bought by the company. This is the process each one goes through before it reaches customers.

Buntu buys every product it sells. There are no paid listings or sponsored placements in the shop, and each item is selected on the basis of quality, value and customer demand. For suppliers, this means a clear and structured process, from the first sample to an ongoing supply relationship.

Evaluating the product

The process begins with a physical sample, together with accurate photographs and measurements. Buntu assesses the product as a customer would, looking at materials, construction, durability and how closely it matches its description. Products are also checked for consistency, so that later deliveries meet the same standard as the sample.

Pricing and terms

Before placing an order, Buntu calculates the full landed cost of the product in Kigali and the price at which it would be offered to customers. The company only proceeds where that price represents fair value for the customer. Quantities, lead times and payment terms are then agreed with the supplier.

"We look for products that customers will be happy to buy again, at a price that works for both the customer and the supplier," says a Buntu spokesperson. "A clear process helps everyone. Suppliers know what we need from them, and we can be confident in what we are putting in front of customers."

A first order and a review

First orders are deliberately sized to allow both sides to assess performance without taking on excessive risk. Once the product has been on sale, Buntu shares feedback with the supplier on sales, customer reviews and returns, and decides together with the supplier whether to reorder.

Ongoing assortment review

Products that perform well and generate few returns earn a longer-term place in the assortment. Buntu reviews performance regularly and adjusts the range in line with customer demand.
