From sorting to the doorstep: how Buntu orders reach customers across Kigali

From early morning preparation to the final handover, a look at the process behind every Buntu delivery.

Every Buntu order ends with a delivery, and for most customers that handover is the only time they meet the company in person. Each delivery day begins early, well before the first customers are awake, and it is built around a simple objective: to arrive within the window the customer was given, at the right address, with the right order.

Preparing the day's routes

The morning starts with sorting. Each parcel is checked against its order and grouped by area, and any notes recorded on previous deliveries to the same addresses are reviewed. Routes are then planned around the delivery windows promised to customers, current road conditions and areas affected by construction, which remains a regular factor in a fast-growing city.

"Most of the work happens before we leave," says a Buntu spokesperson. "If the parcels are checked properly and the route takes the morning traffic into account, the rest of the day usually goes to plan. When something goes wrong on the road, it often traces back to something we could have caught at the start."

Confirming before arrival

Before each delivery, Buntu calls the customer to confirm that someone is available to receive the order and to check the exact location. In a city where many addresses are described by landmarks rather than street numbers, this step has proved to be one of the most effective ways of reducing failed deliveries.

The handover

At the door, the order is confirmed with the customer and any immediate questions are answered. Issues that cannot be resolved on the spot are passed directly to customer care, so that the customer does not have to contact the company separately.

Learning from every route

At the end of the day, any difficulties encountered, from locked gates to unclear directions, are recorded against the relevant address. These notes are available to whoever delivers to that address next, and over time they have become one of the most valuable resources Buntu's delivery operation has.
